I got one good experience today. Really good, I think. And it really changed my mind about persons who need extra equipments to move their bodies.
Yesterday, Shelma, one of my good friends, called me. It was such a surprise, cuz i hadn't met her since she came back from America for YLIP, and surprisingly (again) she asked me to join Wheel-Chair Test Drive at taman pintar today. You can imagine how confused i was cuz this was such a new thing for me, so she explained a lot about this thing which is the post-project of her YLIP group. After listening to all her explanations, i was very interested, and, of course, an OK was given for her.
So, around 1.30 pm today, I went to taman pintar to do wheel-chair test drive. Oyah, i havnt explained about this yap? Hehehe... OK, wheel chair test drive is giving chance to normal person to try being a disabled by going to some specific places in a specific area through some routes using a wheel chair. Yap, this means that we have to feel the way they do when they are using this special equipment.
OK, my opinion is, it is very hard being a disabled. You know what, pushing a wheel chair forward by ourselves when we are sitting on it is such an arm workout, hahaha. Really. And it becomes harder when you are going through bumpy, rocky, or zig-zag routes. OMG.
What did i get from this test-drive? Of course, i became more grateful because i do not need special equipments like wheel chair to help myself to move my body. And i did become more respectful to those who use wheel chairs, cuz i'm seeing that buildings in Jogja nowadays are not equipped with facilities for the disabled, which means those buildings are not accessible for them. For me, this is such a poor condition cuz these all mean that people who are disabled cannot enjoy their lives the way the normal people do when they want to.
I hope you all who read this post can do 'something' for those who are using special equipments, for example by pushing their wheelchairs when they find it's hard to move their wheelchairs by theirselves. For architects, or architects wannabe, please please please, equip your buildings with facilities for those disabled persons. Help them enjoy their lives the way we do. I know you can do it...
Oh ya, dont forget to watch the screenings of wheel chair test drive in November. I'll tell you all the details soon after I get it, hahahah.
You know what, Shelma was so surprised seeing me wearing cardigan, flatshoes, and bringing girly bag. Ha-ha-ha, that's why i always tell you all to read this blog!
Enjoy your life
