sunmor sunmor...

this morning, i had to wake up early to accompany my mom to go 'sunmor'-ing at ugm. well, u guys who haven't lived or don't live in jogjakarta may not know about this sunmor thingy. well, sunmor is like a shortened word for 'sunday morning'. i'm not talking about maroon 5's song here, because what i mean by 'sunday morning' here is a kinda activity that people do around Gajah Mada University Campus, like cycling, walking, jogging, or even shopping! yesss, for those who are shopaholics and passionate about cheap but unique and pretty things, this is one perfect place for you. you can find up-to-date clothes, accessories, shoes, sandals, you name it! and don't be surprised when you are told about the price that is much lower than the ones sold in sophisticated boutiques ^^. for those who are smart at bargaining, this is also the perfect place to test your skill, then you'll get even MUCH MUCH lower price than the low one that the seller offers you! hmmm, sounds good, huh? yess it does, but one thing that you guys may hate is you have to wake up in the morning, because the stalls are opened at 6 am and closed at 11 am. and for me, this is one thing i hate from sunmor. waking up early on SUNDAY??? ohh gosh, sorry, but this is what i call REAL HARD :P.
what i love about sunmor is the food (try the pukis sold near Masjid Kampus UGM, its only 500 rupiahs - around 5 cents in US dollars or 15 cents in RM. isnt it SOOOO CHEEAAAPP?? and let me tell ya, this is the MOST DELICIOUS pukis you can get in town!), cheap clothes i can get there (i got one good tie-dye tshirt for only 15000 rupiahs. around RM 5 or USD1.5. wow wow), and creative stuffs sold there. one example is the ones i got this morning, please welcome, SARUNG USB.

if you are wondering what this sarung usb thingy can do for you, well, this is a 'house' for your pendrive or flashdrive or flashdisk or whatever you name it.



and what i like from housing my pendrive to sarung usb is now i can differentiate my pendrive from my friends', hahaha. FYI, my pendrive in an oldie kingston with one gigabyte data storage, and most of my classmates own the same type of pendrive. so, everytime i plug my pendrive in my campus' computers to transfer the lecture notes together with my friends, i have to pay more attention because we usually put all our pendrives on the computer table and queue for our turn to transfer the lecture notes. once i dont remember where i put my pendrive on the line of pendrives on the table, i wont know which one is mine, hahaha. so, by housing this pendrive to sarung usb, now i know that it's my pendrive inside the squirrel, hehehe. besides, isnt it just cute?? ohh and it's also cheap. i bought it for only 6000 rupiahs, around RM 2 or 60 cents in USD. hehehe. lurvin it!

forbidden facebook :P

facebook has become very famous lately in indonesian tv channels, since it seems like every tv program (except those not-so-real-reality shows which still play those melodrama that - the producers claimed - are not using any script and unfortunately nobody believes that, haha~) discusses about it. yess, for those who keeps being updated with indonesian news, you guys must be knowing that there's a rumor that facebook will be forbidden (in another word, haram) in indonesia because of one SILLYWILLY reason : communication between facebook users will lead to SECRET AFFAIR.
ok, what was my first reaction when i heard about this news?
"WTF!!!"
hahahaha~
well, i said those three cursing words not only because i am one of many ppl in this world who gets addicted to facebook, but also because of that silly reason!
firstly, lets see the true facts here. i have been using facebook since like one year ago, and i never got even one boyfriend from using that website. so how will i be led to any affair then?
i use facebook to keep in touch with my friends, since i'm now studying in another country and internet is such a very cheap medium of communication compared to telephone lines. for me, using facebook is like shopping in a one-stop-shopping complex, because facebook provides direct communication (using its chatroom and wall-to-wall feature) and it also acts as one medium of information (since everyone can post any important links in it), one kind of memory-reminder (by letting anyone post pictures of their childhoods and tag everyone in that picture), one medium of discussion (using 'comment' or 'like-dislike' feature), one medium of refreshments (by playing games or doing quizzes provided in it) and there are still many other advantages we can get from it besides using it as a medium for doing a secret affair. honestly, i never think of using facebook for that purpose, ever. and FYI, i am not the only person!
secondly, i just watched one show in antv this morning, and i heard an ustadz named ustadz Ahmad Al-Habsyi, if i'm not mistaken, talking about his opinion for this issue, and i really like his answer, which literally is the same with what i'm thinking about. here i quote what he was saying :


"in this case, we can imagine facebook as a knife. when someone uses that knife for killing a person, we cannot blame on the knife, of course we blame on the person who's using that, because we can use that knife for other better purposes, such as for cutting vegetables that we are going to cook"


yo, he's my man! hahahaha~
i do think the same way as he does. hey, if those ppl are going to make facebook become forbidden, they should do the same to internet then, because there are a lot of websites which provide more features that will lead the users to secret affairs, like porn websites or those advertisements saying "click here and one beautiful girl is waiting for you" or sumfin like that. see?? sorry to say this, but those ppl really need to open their eyes widely and be open-minded, man. however, it depends on the users, but i do personally think that most of facebook users are not using that website purposely as a medium for doing secret affairs. for those ppl who do : shame on you! hahaha~
well, that's just my opinion, but honestly, i cannot imagine if facebook really becomes forbidden someday -___-"

and yess again, you guys must had been already knowing that - SURPRISE! SURPRISE! - the winner of the finale is KRIS ALLEN!
sorry for those who love kris allen, but the result is just so surprising for me that i cried this morning directly after ryan seacrest said "american idol 2009 is... KRIS ALLEN!"
well, i am not the only person who's surprised. since simon cowell kept saying that adam lambert was much better than kris allen last nite on american idol finale show, of course everyone thought that he would be the winner. and suddenly this morning on result show, voila! we got fooled. hahaha. but trust me, adam was doing WAY better than kris, even kris admitted that! when ryan asked him what he felt after knowing that he's the american idol, kris answered "it feels good, but adam deserves this." kris knows. EVERYONE KNOWS!
after watching the show, i kept browsing the internet and the thought of "damn! how come it's kris? HOW COME IT'S KRIS??" kept passing my mind, before i found this article :

Kris Allen wins 'American idol': Results show crowns new winner

Kris Allen is your new "American Idol." Who'd have thunk it?

Certainly not the "Idol" producers. They couldn't be bothered to show Kris at all before this season's semi-finals began, which is usually the kiss of death to all but the most compelling singers (Kelly Clarkson in season one, Bo Bice in season four). And they shamelessly, even by their standards, tried to stage-manage a victory for pet contestant Adam Lambert, giving him an abundance of screen time, better production values (special lighting and other effects) than any past finalist, and multiple chances to close the show near the end of the season.

Certainly not the "Idol" judges. They had trouble hiding their love -- or, in the case of Paula Abdul, worship -- of Adam throughout the finals. On Judges' Choice night last week, Simon went to the trouble to get U2's "One" cleared for him to sing, and talked about how pleased Bono was to have Adam singing one of his songs. At the end of last week's performance show, Simon Cowell all but begged the audience to vote for Adam so he wouldn't be a surprise elimination before the finale. And at the end of Tuesday night's show, after Kris had struggled through the embarrassingly mawkish "Idol" coronation song co-written by new judge Kara DioGuardi, all four judges were so condescending in the way they each told Kris that he should be proud of making it this far, the only way he could have been more insulted was if Paula had patted him on the head while Randy Jackson gave him a trophy for participation.

Certainly not me, for that matter, since going into the finals I ranked Kris dead last on a list of finalists with a chance to win.

Not even Kris himself, who moments after winning told Ryan Seacrest, "It feels good, man, but Adam deserves this."

But here we are at the end of another sometimes exhausting, sometimes thrilling, constantly frustrating season of "American Idol," and our champion isn't the guy that the show, the judges, and the media have been saying should and would win, but the quiet, unassuming guy with the acoustic guitar.

How did that happen?

Really, you have to look at it from two angles: why Kris won, and why Adam didn't. I fear the former is going to be lost in all the hue and cry over the latter, so let's start there.

Kris appeared to slip into the finals, after a mediocre semi-finals performance of Michael Jackson's "Man in the Mirror," on the basis of his smile and non-threatening good looks. (Remember: one of the largest, most passionate voting blocs on "Idol" is made up of tween girls.) But once the show moved to the bigger stage -- and, more importantly, once Kris was allowed to play an instrument, whether it was his trusty guitar or the occasional piano -- he proved himself to be one of this season's most likable, and, yes, talented contestants.

Yes, Adam (and several other finalists) could likely sing rings around Kris' limited range. But Kris, like David Cook last season, had an uncanny ability to bend the weekly themes to his skill set, coming up with arrangements that went well with his smooth, charming style and his skill with both the guitar and the piano. He turned Donna Summer's "She Works Hard for the Money" and Kanye West's "Heartless" into energetic coffee house jams, re-arranged Bill Withers' "Ain't No Sunshine" to make it sound more intimate and modern (then came up with yet another arrangement for Tuesday night's reprise), and was the only "Idol" contestant on Rat Pack Night to grasp that the key to those songs was in the phrasing and storytelling, not the ability to drill through solid concrete with the power of your voice.

Where the fun in the early part of the finals was in seeing just what song Adam might pick, and what crazy thing he might do to it (his re-arrangements were dicier, notably his sitar-inflected take on "Ring of Fire"), our frontrunner seemed to stagnate after a certain point. Viewers often like an Idol who grows over the course of the season (Kelly, Jordin, Cook), where Adam arrived as a finished product, and suddenly the growth story became Kris.

But while Kris' victory was deserved, some of his support at the end no doubt came from people who just didn't like Adam, who's one of the more talented contestants the show has ever had, but also one of the most polarizing. People either adored the versatility of Adam's voice, or cringed at the way he liked to wail at the top of his upper register. His fans compared him to Elvis; his detractors called him too flamboyant, or theatrical, and said he belonged on Broadway (where a number of past "Idol" finalists have found careers) rather than the pop charts. And as the show's cheerleading for Adam rose -- a few weeks ago, Katy Perry showed up on the results show wearing a cape with Adam's name on it that the show treated to a loving, dramatic close-up -- his detractors' resentment for him only grew. And the fans of the cast-off contestants, none of whom were treated as lovingly by the show, likely gravitated towards the guy going up against him.

Being polarizing isn't a problem in the earlier rounds of "American Idol." You want people to be passionate, because the ones who love you will vote for you like crazy. But at the end, when it's a one-on-one situation, the ones who hate you finally have a chance to vote against you.

And so we don't have the Idol we expected. But we also have one who earned his unlikely victory.

well, it does make sense, but all i can say is : owyea adam, you got more fans but unfortunately not all of them were generous enough to vote for you, hehehee~
however, i still believe that adam will sell more albums than kris, wont he? ;)
